Family Den Pilot

This pilot will allow the units designated as “family” Cub Scout packs that currently serve boys and girls in single gender dens the ability to form “family dens” with boys and girls together in the same den. This allows one more option for family packs to form dens that best meet the needs of the families they are serving. We realize many packs are already doing this, so here’s your chance to be official!

Only family packs approved by the Cradle of Liberty Council with approval from their chartered organization may conduct the Family Den Pilot Program. To participate in this pilot, please read through the information on this page and complete the memorandum of understanding (MOU) included below. Upon acceptance of this MOU, your pack will be approved for admittance into the Family Den Pilot. If all conditions of the MOU are met by your pack, it will stay in the pilot as long as the pilot remains active.

Please ensure your pack is designated as a family pack. Here’s an easy way to check:

– Visit BeAScout.org

– Enter the zip code for your chartered organization

– Find your pack in the search results. You’re a family pack if the entry indicates: Dens for Boys and Girls

If your pack needs to update its family pack status (and/or BeAScout pin info, or make the pin active if it’s not appearing), a member of the pack’s key-3 (chartered organization representative, committee chair, or cubmaster) should log-in to their My.Scouting account.

– Family pack status can be updated in Organization Manager > Settings.

– BeAScout pin information can be updated in Organization Manager > Unit Pin.

As a pilot pack, the pack agrees to:

– Get approval from their chartered partner and pack committee to participate.

– Agrees to use Scoutbook to set up all of their dens.

– Assign a registered adult leader in the pack as the representative to the council for the pilot. The representative agrees to participate in the pack pilot kick-off webinar on June 30, 2022 and if unable to attend the live webinar, to watch the recorded session.

– Beginning with the 2022-23 program year, pilot packs may form Lion (Kindergarten), Tiger (1st Grade), Wolf (2nd Grade), Bear (3rd Grade), and Webelos (4th Grade only) dens with boys and girls in them. To prepare them for Scouts BSA, Arrow of Light (5th Grade) Scouts are to remain in single-gender dens (this is a requirement and not optional). Multi-rank dens such as a den of Wolves (2nd graders) and Bears (3rd graders) working on their respective badges of rank may also be formed with girls and boys.

– Agree to have a registered adult leader as the den leader for each den.

– Contact the local council with any questions about the pilot.

– If the pilot is terminated for any reason, the pack agrees to discontinue the program and will no longer provide an option to form family dens.

Packs that complete the MOU below and are approved for the pilot will receive additional information and details about the kick-off webinar. You may contact your membership specialist or email membership@colbsa.org if you have any questions.

Thank you to the following Cub Scout packs for signing-up for the pilot!
