2010 Pilgrimage & Encampment
Honoring Captain Robert Kirkwood

Captain Robert Kirkwood was commissioned as a lieutenant of the 1st Delaware Regiment in 1775. In 1776 as a Captain he was under the command of General Thomas Mifflin of Pennsylvania. By 1777 he was under the command of General Washington. He survived the Revolutionary war and continued his military service until he was killed in a battle with the Native American Miami Tribe near Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Pilgrimage will explore his role in the revolutionary war under George Washington. Also featured at the Pilgrimage will be Musket Drilling, Artillery and Musket demonstrations and Native American roles in the war explained by present day members of the Oneida Nation. There will also be other enactors through out the park demonstrating many skills of living during the revolutionary period.

COLD WEATHER SEMINAR TRAINING INFORMATION:
The Cold Weather Seminar Training is a mandated training by the Valley Forge National Historical Park. If you have taken this or an equivalent training within the past two years, then proof of this training is required. If you have not taken this training or it has been more then two years since you have taken it, then you must attend one of the sessions being held.

COLD WEATHER SEMINAR TRAINING "PILGRIMAGE ONLY REGISTRATION"
The training takes place Thursday, January 7, 2010. The cost is $3.00 per person and it includes the Cold Weather booklet and a snack. Pre-registration is required. The limit is 2 adults and 2 youth per unit. The deadline for registration is December 30, 2009. The training will take place at the Firestone Scouting Resource Center, located at 1485 Valley Forge Rd, Wayne, PA 19087 beginning at 7 P.M. There are NO REFUNDS for this training.

"PILGRIMAGE ONLY REGISTRATION"    

For those attending just the Pilgrimage, check-in will begin on Saturday, February 13 at 8:00 a.m. at the Visitor Center, lower parking lot, Route 23 & North Gulph Road. The Pilgrimage fee of $ 10.00 per person   includes a patch that is unique to Scouting’s longest running annual event in any local council in the BSA. (The first pilgrimage was in 1912) The registration deadline is Friday, January 29, 2010.

"ENCAMPMENT ONLY REGISTRATION, INCLUDES PILGRIMAGE"
It will be a weekend to experience first hand what it may have been like for George Washington’s Continental Army at Valley Forge. The Encampment will run from Friday night through Sunday morning, February 12 - 14, 2010. The Encampment fee is $16.00 per person, which includes the Pilgrimage, special Encampment activities and patches and bus transportation to the Pilgrimage activities. The registration deadline is Friday, January 29, 2010.
