The Annual Friends of Scouting Campaign provides individuals and businesses with an opportunity to support the programs and facilities of the Cradle of Liberty Council with a non-restricted gift, either recurring monthly as a member of the Liberty Society or an annual gift.

The true cost of Scouting is much greater than what local dues or event and camping fees cover. Yearly registration fees directly support the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and help provide program development and research, literature and other resources. The Friends of Scouting Campaign gives individuals and businesses the opportunity to contribute to the Cradle of Liberty Council at a level of their own choosing according to their interest and ability to give.

The Cradle of Liberty Council Mourns the Loss of Robert Lux

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Robert Lux, Chairman of the Board, Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America, on Wednesday, December 26. Bob was a devoted volunteer who gave selflessly of his time, talent and treasure for more than 30 years. Bob’s commitment to Scouting was second to none and his service was invaluable. Bob was laid to rest on Thursday, January 3 and will be deeply missed by all. Please click on the following link for Bob’s Obituary and continue reading below to learn more about his incredible commitment to Scouting and his contributions to the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America.

A native of Philadelphia’s Kensington/North Philadelphia section, Bob was never a Scout in his youth. However, he got involved as an adult when he and his wife Patty enrolled their son, Chris, in Cub Scout Pack 563 at St. William Catholic Church in Lawndale.  Bob soon became the pack’s Webelos leader, then Cubmaster, and in 1993 he started Boy Scout Troop 563 at St. William, where he served as Scoutmaster for three years.  It was during those years that Scouting got into Bob’s DNA and he knew he would remain committed to Scouting even after his son Chris reached the rank of Eagle Scout. After stepping down as Scoutmaster, Bob remained involved with Troop 563, serving as their Eagle Scout Coach. Listen to Bob’s Scouting Story in his own words.

In 2006, Bob joined the Executive Board of the Cradle of Liberty Council and was named Assistant Council Treasurer.  In 2010, Bob assumed the role of Council Treasurer and Chairman of the Council’s Finance Committee.  Under Bob’s consistent leadership of the Finance Committee, the council was able to navigate through many headwinds and take a council that was suffering from severe operating deficits to a council that had an operating surplus every year.  Through his dual roles as a uniformed Scouter and an Executive Board member with an in-depth knowledge of the Council’s finances, Bob had a thorough understanding of the needs of the Council and made sure that surplus funds were reinvested in the program.  In April 2018, Bob was named Council President.
During his tenure, Bob served on numerous council committees and was tirelessly engaged in the Council’s fundraising efforts, serving as a member of the steering committee for the Council’s Annual Corporate Campfire Gala, and helping identify connections between the business community and Scouting.  In addition to being a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, Bob also received the Health Industry “Good Scout” Award.  Earlier this year, Bob completed his Ordeal to become a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Bob profoundly epitomized the Scout Oath and Law and made such an immeasurable impact on the lives of tens of thousands of young people through his unwavering dedication to Scouting.  His absence is felt by everyone in the Cradle of Liberty Council family, and he will be dearly missed.
